Sapulpa is full of rich history. This community-based town has access via turnpike to downtown Tulsa and connecting highways to other suburbs. Sapulpa real estate offers the quality of family-filled living with a medium-sized city that offers much to do and an easy commute.
Sapulpa is by no means a tiny town. It has a population of over 20,500 residents. Sapulpa real estate is affordable, with a median home value of $111,100. Sapulpa’s beautiful downtown possesses picturesque brick buildings. As part of old Route 66, the town has three vintage gas stations, the original roadbed of the route, and the red-brick Bridge at Rock Creek. Burnett Mansion is another historic landmark that displays some of the wealth of Oklahoma’s oil money. Sapulpa has even been awarded for its efforts to preserve architectural history, such as the mansion.
Sapulpa began as part of the Creek Nation territory and was named after its first settler, Chief Sapulpa, who was not an actual tribal chief. His quaint trading post establishment grew with the incoming Pacific Railroad. When the Glen Pool oil was discovered, Sapulpa experienced another surge in population and growth. And it became a stop along Route 66, bringing tourism and economy to the city.
Many schools serve the Sapulpa area (public and private). Freedom Elementary is one of the top-rated schools. The students excel in academics, and the school has a diverse population of students. Sapulpa High School offers great college-prep including AP classes. And for students who want to learn at their own pace or catch up on missing courses, the school now has the Virtual Academy.
Lake Sahoma offers camping, hiking, hunting, fishing, and other outdoor activities to Sapulpa residents. Kelly Lane Park is another great area for families to spend time. And each Christmas season, Sapulpa hosts the Christmas Parade in its downtown and has the Native American Christmas market. For historians and car lovers, check out the Heart of Route 66 Auto Museum or have fun viewing vintage cars at the Waite Phillips Service station, built for Route 66.
Sapulpa has some great thrifting and antiquing. It also houses some Oklahoma-style restaurants for good country eating including: Steak and Eggs—a favorite local diner. CTX Coffee - a craft coffee shop located in the heart of downtown, as well as the Hickory House BBQ—mouthwatering BBQ on Route 66. There is also Patriot Café—serving catfish, steaks, roasts, and more.
